Salad Recipe From My Childhood

February 9th, 2010

If you are a meat eater… I want to introduce you to a salad that you can eat with your meat that will enhance the taste of your dish… but here is the catch; you must eat it with your dish and not eat the salad before your meal.. I grew up in Turkey and we always eat our salads with the meal and there is a reason for this… When you try it, you will know.

Salads enhance the taste of a meal if eaten with the meal… You know… take a bit of the meat and take some salad with it. That combination can make for a taste that you cannot have if you eat the salad before you eat your meal.

So here is such a salad recipe. But before the salad recipe let me give you the Oil and Lemon Dressing Recipe you will add to this salad.

- 1/2 cup finest virgin oil you can find
- 2 to 4 teaspoons of lemon juice
- 1/14 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Freshly ground pepper (optional)
- 1 to 2 minced fresh barley or mint

Combine them all in a small bowl and beat well with a fork.

Now let\’s get to our salad. It is called the Sheppard\’s salad. One of the tastiest salads to you will ever eat… great with barbecues. This is for 8 servings. Here are the ingredients:

- 1 to 2 large bell peppers diced
- 1 or 2 green chillies minced
- 1 cup chopped parsley
- 1 table spoon of vinegar
- 3 large ripe tomatoes diced
- 2 small cucumbers diced… use the pickle kind
- 1 small onion diced
- 3 to 4 minced green onions, including tops
- Salt for taste
- Oil and lemon dressing

One important point; please make sure you chop all the vegetables finely enough that you can scoop them with a spoon.

Toss all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. If you let this salad sit a bit in the refrigerator you will like the taste even better. That has always been my experience… but you don\’t have to… it is good to go as is.

I cannot imagine eating a meat dish without the Sheppard\’s salad. I grew up with it and I always eat it with the meal and not ahead of the meal. I suggest you do the same… try it… you will enjoy it.

Can You Be Sure You Have The Right Smoke Alarms Installed To Protect Your Family

February 9th, 2010

If you\’ve been thinking about installing smoke alarms in your family home and are finding it hard to work out which device is suitable, you\’re one of the many people who feel a little lost. Given there are such a wide variety of smoke detectors on the market today, let\’s break all of them down into two categories to simplify the decision. The first is known as an ionization smoke alarm and the other is a photoelectric smoke alarm.

If this is still sounding a little confusing, allow me to explain the differences of each device to you and how they work. If you\’re to make an informed decision when purchasing such items, you\’ll want to know it\’s the right device for you to purchase for your family home.

A great analogy for the way in which an ionization smoke alarm works is the same way in which your sense of smell functions. The device tests and detects the presence of smoke particles in the air. Ideally, these kinds of smoke detectors are suitable for industrial areas where fires ignite due to chemicals or explosive materials. Many people have made the mistake of installing these kinds of alarms within their home, either not knowing or flat out ignoring the advice to do otherwise. Because fires within the home ignite in a different manner to industrial ones, this has left many people at risk of injury or death due to insufficient detection.

Let\’s now look at the way photoelectric smoke alarms work. Using a similar analogy as the previous paragraph, a photoelectric smoke alarm is similar to your eyes. As an optical device, it scans the room looking for the presence of fire and smoke.

Inside each and every photoelectric smoke alarm lies a light emitting diode which it uses to look for the presence of smoke. Because it does this 24/7, it will alarm you to the fact a fire danger is present within your home if smoke is present. They\’re the most effective smoke alarm for the home or small office. Given the large majority of fires that occur within small offices or the home produce a lot of smoke, it makes perfect sense to install a photoelectric smoke alarm instead of an ionization model.

Knowledge is power and now that you have the knowledge of which smoke alarm is best for your home, it\’s time to act and install the right device. I\’d like to mention one last thing. Many people have often lamented about not being able to install both types of devices in the home. Well, now there are dual ionization-photoelectric smoke alarms on the market.

These devices utilize both methods of detection and because of that, they are a little more costly than a singular device. Having said that, if the cost is a non-issue for you, they\’re a great item to purchase. If value for money is a larger consideration, opt for the photoelectric smoke alarm over the ionization type. Photoelectric smoke alarms are far better in the detection of fire in your home, ionization smoke alarms are known to have a much higher failure rate which could put you at risk.

Starting now, you can take action to better protect your family against fire. The first action is to visit the photoelectric smoke alarm website to get started.

Cure Skin Parasites

February 9th, 2010

Skin Parasites – There are a variety of forms of skin parasite that can cause hurt and illness in us, and the majority are well known and recognized. They take the form of miniature insects, mites, fleas and ticks to be broad and display themselves in a number of ways, causing a variety of skin infections that can be a source of severe suffering to the affected.

The Scabies Mite Among the most frequently seen incidences of mites in humans are some that are thanks to the Scabies, or Itch, mite. This miniature animal feeds on our blood and eats tiny tunnels in the skin where the female lays her egg lives. The insects are spread by one to one contact, as they can not live for long without a living host. The work of the mites instigates very noticeable itching and pain, and leaves behind a tiny indication of a line where the mite has crawled under the skin.

More on the Scabies Mite – Inflammation of the skin is a symptom, and scratching by the patient is inevitable, and simply exaggerates the problem. Recognising scabies is quite easy – the discolouration of the skin and the severe itching are signs – but it may also be taken for other similar infections , and is thus very hard to diagnose correctly. One added problem is that the symptoms may not be evident until several weeks after the mites have arrived, leading to the problem being very advanced by the time it is diagnosed. Once diagnosed, however, scabies can be treated with a number of creams and lotions and other routines, and is hardly difficult to treat very swiftly indeed.

Ticks – Ticks are different from mites in that they are seen above the skin, and feed on our blood by nibbling their way into the skin and anchoring themselves by way of very powerful protruding barbs. This is one trait of ticks that live on mammals and humans that sees them notably horrible; it also makes them famously difficult to remove without problem, and whether on a human or animal, it is not done to simply wrench a tick that is in the process of eating off the body. This move may to leave the barb section – the anchor – in the top layers of the skin and, in many cases, can mean surgery being necessary in order to prevent further problems. The right method of removing ticks is to smear them in butter or oil, or other fatty substances, which serves to suffocate the mite in a short time. The use of fats results in a relaxing of the creature\’s grip, and it should thus be easier to remove. Ticks, especially those found in tropical locations, can be responsible for a number of very nasty fevers, and as such need to be treated with a degree of suspicion in all cases.

Morgellons Syndrome One of the more interesting problems associated with skin parasites is that going by the name of Morgellons Syndrome, a recently discovered condition that is as interesting as it is troubling. Morgellons syndrome is a parasitic infection with a most odd feature – there are no parasites condition. However, it is far from an entirely modern condition, just one that has been spread more widely in recent years. Treatment for Morgellons syndrome often follows that prescribed for similar delusionary problems, and as such it has not been accepted by the medical profession as anything other than a problem akin toan inexplicable psychological.

Tropical Fish Guide For Rookies

February 9th, 2010

Owning tropical fish is both relaxing and fun. You can throw your stress and worries to the wind when you sit in amazement, watching your fish swim and frolic. If you have never owned tropical fish before, here\’s a tropical fish guide to help you get started. Do some research on the kinds of fish you might like to buy so that once you\’re ready to buy, it\’s not a drawn out event. The first thing you need to do is purchase a tank.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what you have room for and what you\’re prepared to take care of. Knowing how big of a tank to buy can be tricky. The people at your local exotic pet and tropical fish store can be a huge help to you. Typically the best size for new tropical fish owners is anywhere from 10 to 20 gallons. You can manage this size easily and once you\’ve got good experience handling this size tank, you can move up to a larger tank.

If you don\’t have a tank already, go purchase a small one. You also need a filter and light as well as other supplies to clean the tank. Buy the food you\’ll need ahead of time as well. You can design a tank that is creative and colorful or if you prefer, very basic. Just make sure that whatever you do, you buy quality products. Things you buy that are less than well crafted can cost you down the road.

You of course need a strong and well built tank. Make sure the tank has no cracks or obvious defects. You will also need a hang on the back filter and a 5 watt light to keep your new pets happy and healthy. Wash your tank out well when you get it home and make sure that the water is pure before you begin introducing fish into it.

Make sure that your tank is completely clean and then add about an inch of rocks to the bottom of the tank. There is a variety of colored and ornate gravel that you can purchase for your tank. Get creative and give your new pets a beautiful home to enjoy.

Begin adding water and set your tank heater to approximately 80 degrees. This is the ideal temperature for most tropical fish. Be sure and check with the pet store before putting your fish in their new home.

Make sure that you are setting your tank up at least 3 feet away from any direct light source or source of heat such as windows, sliding glass doors and heating vents. Your fish love the light, but natural sunlight helps algae to grow and you\’ll have a very messy tank to clean. The 5 watt light you bought should be more than enough light to keep them swimming around happily. You\’ll want to begin filling the tank once you get the stones and toys in place. Now that you\’ve got everything ready, you can go select your fish.

Since you\’re new to this, ask the pet store owner to show you the lower maintenance fish they have to offer. Select a few of several kinds of fish that will be both bright and fascinating to watch and also easy to care for. Some fish, contrary to popular belief, do not get along well. They may not warn you at the pet shop, but some fish are highly predatory. Read up on the kinds of fish that you shouldn\’t mix together before buying your new pets.

Feed your new fish the right kind of food and always feed them at the same time of day. Don\’t give them too much food and don\’t starve them, either. This can lead to fish cannibalism. Again, not a pretty sight, especially for the young ones. Make sure your tank stays clean and your fish will be very happy to call your tank home.
