A bathroom remodeling project can quickly become quite expensive if you decide to go ahead and just replace everything in it. Instead, if you are on a budget it is worth doing some of the more simple jobs yourself and try transforming some of your old items into new. Jobs such as renewing a countertop, modernizing a bathroom mirror or patching rust holes in a bathtub are quite easy to do yourself. It is easy with these remodeling ideas.
Eliminating Rust Stains and Holes:
Getting rid of signs of aging and wear and tear such as rust, water stains and limescale is a good place to start to begin to give your bathroom a brighter, fresher look. One of my favorite cleaners for this job is Lysol Power Toilet Bowl cleaner. I would normally follow this up with a rust and limescale remover.
If you have any cracks or holes in your shower or bathtub, this can easily be repaired with a compound such as Bondo Tub and Shower Repair kit. Any uneven areas of color in your tub, shower or toilet can be treated with Oleum Tub and Tile Refreshing kit which is good at revitalising your surfaces. Most good general home depot stores should stock these products and they come with full instructions.
Remodeling an Old Countertop:
Another good project is to remodel the bathroom countertop. For the paint to adhere to the surface you first need to lightly and it to provide a key for the paint to adhere to. Then apply two coats of a primer waiting around thirty minutes between coats. Then use a good quality acrylic paint to apply three shades using a sea-sponge faux finish. If the surface is tile or porcelain use a gloss finish paint.
Old Mirror Renovating:
Continue with your remodeling by next looking at the bathroom mirror. Any stains or marks along the edges can be hidden by building a frame for it. One money saving tip is that if you want to replace your old bathroom mirror, buy two cheap mirrors that have no frames, build a couple of frames for them and then hang them side by side. This can give a really modern look.
To add the final finish, I would advise painting the bathroom walls. Using the sea sponge faux technique, as mentioned earlier, apply warm, soothing colors to the walls. Don\’t forget painting the ceiling though. To prevent the build up of mold and mildew it is worth buying waterproof paint that is recommended for bathrooms. They often contain an anti-fungal in the paint.
