Ironically, the first purchase for some (read: men) will be an array of cleaning products, because nobody wants to use a filthy bathroom. You probably also see it on the grouting between the tiles. So step one: Toss the old shower curtain. Step two: Tackle the black spots between the tiles with a cleaning product containing chlorine. Be careful, however, not to mix a chlorine cleaning product with something containing ammonia. This combination releases deadly chlorine gas, which can kill you and your redecorating project in short order.
For only $30, you can already buy good quality paint. When the tiles and everything else are clean, proceed with the repainting task. Your bathroom will take on a totally new look with a new color.
Next, spend for your bathroom essential – a shower curtain. For about $25, you\’ll have a nice-looking curtain to add a brand new look to your bathroom. Choose one that goes well with the new color.
Here\’s the tricky part. Swap out the existing cabinets and wash stands for new bathroom \”furniture.\” If you have built-in cabinets, this can be a real chore, so you might want to enlist the help of a more experienced and knowledgeable friend or relative if you\’re not up to speed on this kind of change. Look for bathroom furniture sets that come with combinations such as a wash-basin base or cabinet, a tall cabinet, a wall shelf, a mirror with shelf and another base cabinet. These sets provide sufficient storage space and are usually made with surfaces that are easy to clean. If it all won\’t fit in your bathroom, you can easily sell the leftovers and recoup some of your investment. Cost of a set like this is around $200.
Unlike the cabinetry, changing out the showerhead is a fairly easy job. Get a chrome version that has adjustable settings and a flow regulator to conserve water. Some models can be removed from their racks for a full-body spray. Cost about $40.
Finish the decorating work by accessorizing. You don\’t have to crowd the bathroom with unnecessary things like porcelains, photos and souvenir items. Simple yet relevant decors will make an impression without eating up space. Think scented candles, oil burner, flowers and vase, a plant or two, hooks for your towels, waste can or hamper and a complementing area rug with a color or design that fits the bathroom\’s new hue.
With the remaining money, you can splurge on fluffy new towels and bathrobes. Set aside extra pieces for your guests.
