It’s the holiday season again and your hard-earned money should be used wisely on Christmas decorations. As a frugal and fun way to make gifts for your loved ones, here are three handmade and homemade ornaments you can make with household items. These simple craft ideas for Christmas ornaments are great giveaway items for family and friends.
1. Cute Cookie Ornaments: Find whatever cookie cutter designs you have and bake cookies in those shapes. Next, trim the tree with your cookies. If you don’t have cookie cutters, you can try other methods. One example is by making your own hand-made pretzel from cookie dough. After you form and mold it, hang it on a Christmas tree branch and decorate it with ribbons.
Use these simple instructions. Take a small piece of your favorite dough and roll out to a length of 3 inches. Take both ends and put one end over the other like a loop shape. After baking the cookie pretzel, you can thread a ribbon through the gap in the shape of a bow, and put it on your Christmas tree.
2. Colored Paper Trees: Cut out Christmas trees from white construction paper. Make it unique by having your child put his name. Have him put stickers, glitter, a photo, or color each tip of the tree branch to look like Christmas decorations. Use these trees to act as a small divider in your child’s room or connect them together and hang it around the Christmas tree.
3. Christmas Stocking Ornaments: Make your own Christmas stocking ornaments using whatever material you have on hand. Use several fabrics and colors to really make them bright and colorful. Glue on bows, beads or large ribbons. You can give them a unique touch by writing your child’s name on it. When finished, loop a piece of fabric and sew it to the top end of the stocking. Now, show them off by hanging it to the tree.
Not only are these homemade Christmas ornaments fun, they allow family interaction and expand your children’s creative skills and ideas. In addition, it is more rewarding to hang up something you’ve made, than buying in some store shelf. Simple craft ideas for Christmas like these are memorable and enjoyable for the entire family. These handcrafted items are also great to send out as gifts to friends and relatives.
Before you decide to go shopping for Christmas ornaments, first take a look around your house. You’ll be surprised at what you may find!
