Light plays a very important role in our daily lives. Lucky for us, we no longer have to depend on fire as our only source of light with the invention of light bulbs and many other light devices. One of the devices would be the flashlight.
The flashlight also known as the torch is a hand-held device that is powered by an electric source. It has a light bulb at the end which is the source of the light. There are many types of flashlight that can be purchased such as the helmet-mounted flashlight that are used mainly by miners and jungle trekkers.
The role of the flashlight would be to brighten a dark environment. People such as jungle-trekkers and night-watch guards know this best. A lot of accidents could happen in a place that doesn’t have good lighting therefore the flashlight is the most convenient tool to remedy that situation. Besides that, the flashlights portability also makes it easy to carry around and can be kept by your side at all times.
Besides that, flashlights are also one of the important gadgets whenever a person is packing an emergency kit or going camping. Flashlights can be easily packed and stored and won’t get spoiled even after a long period of time. Flashlights are also a mandatory tool for scouts and they are required to carry a flashlight at all times because you never know when you will need it.
When choosing a flashlight try to see what type of bulb it uses. The most common light bulbs emit a yellow light that heats up easily as well as use up more energy. That is why you should always opt for flashlights that use light emitting diodes (LED). One can easily distinguish a flashlight that uses LED from its light beam which is clearer and has a white tint to it.
Another disadvantage from the old light bulb would be that it tends to heat up quite fast. This creates discomfort especially when you are using the flashlight as the handle would get hot from the bulb.
If you are the type of person that always forgets to purchase new batteries, there are even flashlights that don’t need any batteries to work. These flashlights are known as Forever Flashlights. Inside the flashlight is a coil of copper wires with a magnet in the middle. All you have to do is to shake the flashlight for a couple of minutes and electricity will be generated inside which can last for almost two hours.
With so many types of flashlights to choose from, there is bound to be one that suits you the best. A tip to decide which flashlight to choose would be how often you use it. For example; if you are the type that uses flashlights every now and then, the batteryless flashlights would definitely be the choice since it’s rechargeable and you can save on the battery cost. However if you don’t use flashlights often and only keep them for emergencies, then battery-powered flashlights can be considered as well.
