If you are a meat eater… I want to introduce you to a salad that you can eat with your meat that will enhance the taste of your dish… but here is the catch; you must eat it with your dish and not eat the salad before your meal.. I grew up in Turkey and we always eat our salads with the meal and there is a reason for this… When you try it, you will know.
Salads enhance the taste of a meal if eaten with the meal… You know… take a bit of the meat and take some salad with it. That combination can make for a taste that you cannot have if you eat the salad before you eat your meal.
So here is such a salad recipe. But before the salad recipe let me give you the Oil and Lemon Dressing Recipe you will add to this salad.
- 1/2 cup finest virgin oil you can find
- 2 to 4 teaspoons of lemon juice
- 1/14 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Freshly ground pepper (optional)
- 1 to 2 minced fresh barley or mint
Combine them all in a small bowl and beat well with a fork.
Now let\’s get to our salad. It is called the Sheppard\’s salad. One of the tastiest salads to you will ever eat… great with barbecues. This is for 8 servings. Here are the ingredients:
- 1 to 2 large bell peppers diced
- 1 or 2 green chillies minced
- 1 cup chopped parsley
- 1 table spoon of vinegar
- 3 large ripe tomatoes diced
- 2 small cucumbers diced… use the pickle kind
- 1 small onion diced
- 3 to 4 minced green onions, including tops
- Salt for taste
- Oil and lemon dressing
One important point; please make sure you chop all the vegetables finely enough that you can scoop them with a spoon.
Toss all the ingredients into a bowl and mix well. If you let this salad sit a bit in the refrigerator you will like the taste even better. That has always been my experience… but you don\’t have to… it is good to go as is.
I cannot imagine eating a meat dish without the Sheppard\’s salad. I grew up with it and I always eat it with the meal and not ahead of the meal. I suggest you do the same… try it… you will enjoy it.
